Dean’s Message: Winter 2025
Social science, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is “a branch of science that deals with the institutions and functioning of human society and with the interpersonal relationships of individuals as members of society.” This description certainly sounds like the basis of how a society can achieve greatness, with the help, of course, of individuals who possess the right skills and knowledge.
Understanding how to improve the functioning of society, and the skills necessary to do so, are the very fundamentals of what Dyson College offers – social science programs that provide students with the tools needed to improve how, as a society and as individuals, we may interact as productive, caring, and helpful members of society.
In this issue, you will learn about two social science programs and students’ achievements, including a psychology student entering a prestigious doctoral program directly upon earning their bachelor’s degree; economics students achieving success in a competitive regional contest; and an economics professor who co-created a new program in the field. I hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as I enjoy sharing them.
If you have news you wish to share with the Dyson Community, please contact Angela Nally ’99, ‘06, assistant dean for communications, at anally@pace.edu.
Sincerely,
Tresmaine R. Grimes, PhD
Dean, Dyson College of Arts and Sciences and School of Education
