Alumni News

Cody Boehm ’17, Musical Theater, was interviewed for Maryland Theater Guide for her role as Alice Murphy in Bright Star for the Reston Community Players.

Julia Cancilla ’21, Communication and Media Studies, was hired as social media manager for Inked magazine.

Zoila Casanova ’94, ’97, Labor Relations, MS Education, was named the surrogate court judge of Passaic County, New Jersey.

Leena Concepion ’19, Musical Theater, performed in a Pride-themed concert in Stonington, Maine.

Sydney Jarrard ’09, MS Publishing, won the Richard S. Holden Diversity Fellowship from the American Copy Editors Society.

Alyssa Kakis ’19, Directing, directed an industry reading of Matt DeMaria’s new musical The Living Club.

Kelsey Leland ’18, Acting, starred in a three-week run of AIRNESS at SHADOWLAND STAGES in Ellenville, New York.

Letizia Macchini ’19, Environmental Science, was promoted to lead technical writer for manufacturing compliance at Bristol Meyer Squibb.

Purvi Parmar ’11, Musical Theater, will play a lead role in Teechers Leavers ’22 as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Hull Truck Theatre in the UK.

Aiden Presser ’21, Acting for Film, TV, Commercials, and Voice-overs, is playing Plato and Macavity in the North America tour of Cats, and was interviewed for the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.

Cathryn Wake, Acting, will star in the premiere of 53% OF at Second Stage’s Uptown Series.

Assistant Professor of Biology Joshua Cohen, PhD, had the article “The Paleoecology of the Late Miocene Mammals From the Optima Local Fauna of Oklahoma, USA” published in Acta Palaeontologica Polonica.

Assistant Professor of Psychology Poonam Doshi, PhD, Associate Professor of Psychology Alfred Ward, PhD, and Professor of Psychology Rostyslaw Robak, PhD, had their article “Predictors of Counseling Self-Efficacy: Examining Counselor Trainee’s Perception of Supervisory Interaction Style” published in Teaching and Supervision in Psychology.

Professor of Environmental Studies E. Melanie DuPuis, PhD, co-authored an article titled “Food Supply Chain Shocks and the Pivot Toward Local: Lessons from the Global Pandemic” in Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, exploring the ways in which local food systems responded to the supply chain shocks of the pandemic.

Associate Professor of Chemistry and Physical Sciences Elmer Mojica, PhD, was a co-author of a paper entitled “A Germin-like Protein as Potential Allergen From a Rice Cultivar Derived From Radiation Mutation Breeding” published in Mindanao Journal of Science & Technology.

Mojica also co-authored a paper with Lawrence Phillips ’22, Forensic Science, and Josephine Farshi ’19, Biochemistry, entitled “Identification of Compounds With Biological Activities From Gas Chromatographic Analysis of Propolis Extracts From Greece” in the LSUA Journal of Teaching and Research.

Additionally, Mojica, with Shreya Patel ’14, Biology, Nadina Horril ’14 Biology, and Tyler Brescia ’18 Chemistry, co-authored “Monitoring Changes in Microorganism’s Protein Content and Functional Groups Upon Treatment With a Heavy Metal” in the Journal of Undergraduate Chemistry Research.

Poet-in-residence Charles North’s, MA, poetry collection Everything and Other Poems was chosen by Bookworm for the list of Favorite Poetry Books of the Year.

Assistant Professor of Psychology Michael Tursi, PhD, LMHC, co-authored the paper “Managing Threats: A Grounded Theory of Counseling Engagement in Clients With Experiential Avoidance,” which was published in the Journal of Counseling and Development, the flagship journal of the American Counseling Association.

Assistant Professor of Communications Melvin Williams, PhD, was accepted into The Council of Independent Colleges and Yale University Legacies of Slavery Seminar. Legacies of American Slavery is an initiative of the Council of Independent Colleges, in cooperation with the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at the MacMillan Center of Yale University.
